Why the word feminism is feared.

After reading the assigned pages I came up with two possible reasons why the word feminism is feared.

The first reason the word feminism is feared is that people do not know what it stands for.

The second reason would have to be that social stereotypes portrayed by the media stick out far more than the goals feminism attempts to achieve.

When someone asks let it be known that feminism is the fight for equality of the sexes.

Of course this is just my take on why the word is feared.

  1. I completely agree with you when you stated that one of the reasons why feminism is feared is because people do not know what it stands for. Like we learned, feminism has a negative connotation and if it is not explained properly, people will deny it.

  2. Yes. I also agree. I even was afraid to call myself a feminist. Now with this class, it has helped me understand more about what it truly means and that word is not as intimidating anymore.

  3. i agree with your statements. I think people are afraid of calling themselves or at least admitting they are feminists because they are afraid of what society might say how they may be categorized. I think people find it intimidating to be called a feminist.
