Frontlines & Borders
Lopez and Hasso's article addresses the obstacles that Arab and Latina students must overcome to survive in a predominantly white communities and schools. The changes that these women had through go to are ridiculous. If this country is as free as it calls itself then why do we limit ourselves and create borders among the everyday people. A Latina should not go to class intimidated or uncomfortable just because the professor is white. They should be able to participate in class regardless of the professors race or of the content of the lecture. The Arab women were mis-represented because of events such as the Gulf War in the early 1990s. These women should not get used to the food, music, and cultural events of other people. They should be able to take their "home" with them. I think that the alienation of these women was the cause of this oppositional conciousness: the ideological strategy for subordinated persons confronting domination. The domination of the white race in their lives limited them to be who they are. No one likes to be pushed into a community where the people of different ethnic background won't allow you to be yourself. It is no wonder that Latinas find it an insult to be called a "white bitch". You can call them bitches all you want but don't you dare associate them with the white race that sees them as a
