It's a lost cause! That was the first thing that came to my mind after reading the article, Doing Desire, and chapter 3 in Full Frontal Feminism. In the article, Tolman interviews 3 particular females in which they describe their sexual experiences and their own sexuality. Rochelle is an African American heterosexual female whose problem is the absence of her own sexual desire. Her biggest fear is getting pregnant and having a baby without having started college. Then Tolman talks about Megan, a bisexual female who is afraid in getting lost of the typical stereotype that if you have sex being the female, you are the slut and she is unable to express her sexual desire. Melissa is a lesbian whom to me seems to be completely lost.
The three girls who were talked about in the article are products of the expectations that society puts out for them. In chapter three of Valenti's book, she mentions that if girls fully express their sexuality they are considered sluts in society but on the other end if they don't then they are considered prudes. Either way young females are screwed by society. The three girls mentioned above have all been caught in between trying to find what they really want and being able to express it.
