Handmaid Trafficking

In The Handmaid’s Tale the main job of the handmaids is to have sex. However, this cannot really be called sex as it is mere reproduction. The women are used for their bodies and have no say in the acts that they are forced to do. This reminds me of the real life acts that we read about earlier involving the sex trafficking around the world. These situations are very similar. The women are basically being raped and have no choice but to have sex. The women are objects that are filling a specific role and if they do not do what they are supposed to do, they can be disposed of and replaced with someone else. The women who are forced into sex trafficking must have sex in order to please men while the handmaids and forced to have sex in order to reproduce. I sure if the handmaids were real people, they would feel the same way the women who are part of sex trafficking feel: used, worthless and miserable. They have sex and gain no pleasure out of it and it strips them of their own sexual identity. Although The Handmaid’s Tale is a novel, the situations in it are very real. Women all over the world are being exploited for their bodies and there is little they can do about it. Women are only being valued for sex and have no don’t hold the political power to stop it. Regardless of what the sex is being used for, it is nothing short of rape.
