Blame it all on the Game

What i found really interesting about the reading in Full Frontal Feminism is when Valenti talks about how much of the rhetoric is about blaming the victims of rape rather than those who are committing the acts. Women are told that because they are wearing a certain type of clothing like skirts that they were asking for sex and the man shouldn't be held accountable. Also the fact that they are intoxicated is another argument that is used to justify sexual abuse against women saying that they should know better. With that said you could make all sorts of arguments construing the idea that a women is asking for it but it doesn't address the fact that those who are doing the acts of violence against women are not being held accountable. We are not addressing the bigger picture rather we are looking at the effect of effectively blinding ourselves and not solving the problem. We live in what Valenti called the "rape culture" which glorifies and admires violence especially with men because they are the majority of who are committing crimes against women. I think it ties back to male entitlement and masculinity which make men think that women are objects that are only there for their pleasure and have the right to assert their dominance over them. If we change this ideology then I believe that we can be able make much more progress by making people realize that these acts are unjust and to change we need to take a close look at what we have been told and what we tell others to lift the veil that makes this "rape culture" a disturbing "normal" part of our lives.
