Taken: Used and Abused.
When reading "Human Rights - Sex Trafficking and Prostitution", the movie "Taken" popped into my head. I know the reading had talked about the woman coming to the village and taking the young girl, Siri, to "find a good job", but this movie is a little different. The movie is actually about these two young girls going to France for a vacation getaway and are targeted by a man who was in charge of finding new girls for their sex trafficking business. In the movie we are able to see how it all works, what they do to the girls and how the sell them. It's insane to think this stuff actually happens! To go in scared and wanting nothing but to escape, and then being 'put into action' thinking you deserve the punishment is just one bad outcome. How can a girl get out of something like this? If she ever did escape the prostitution and lifestyle of being sex trafficked, could she ever get back to being herself, and not feel that she is unworthy? How would she be different? Another bad outcome is the risk of sexual diseases. The reading talks about this problem and how the girls actually get injections for contraceptives, but they all use the same needle, which means they're still have that risk of HIV! How the heck is that safe!? Yes, you give them contraceptives, but what about their health! With how many guys these girls have sex with, and how many those guys may have sex with these random girls, they're all bound to catch something sooner or later! It's not safe. The girls will be dead sooner than later. And when I read that they actually gave the girls condoms for their customers (if wanted), I kind of thought in my head, why bother? But i guess guys will be "smart" and think 'oh this prostitute probably has something, but to make it safer for me i'll use a condom anyway.' I guess that's one less guy for the girls to worry about, right? And for those guys that have a "bad experience".... why do you think they even bother with paying for sex? Why wouldn't a guy try and actually find someone to date, rather than helping the sex trafficking business and keeping these girls in this business. These girls are taken and then used and abused. For what? Money. No care for the girls, as long as their alive and 'well' to make that green. And for those girls that are willing, I can't even begin to think why they would want to do this.
