Valenti and MacKinnon both raise questions as to why women are not nearly as involved in politics as men are. If women do not take a stand and start getting themselves ore involved, then men will just continue to control important issues like women’s rights, something that us women should have complete control over. However, certain reasons are clear as to why women do not bother to get involved. Clearly, men do not take women seriously when it comes to politics. Women are noticed for how the talk, dress, and appear, rather than the intellects. Being noticed for having big breasts or a nice ass is not a bad thing by any means, but it becomes an issue when women are trying to bring attention to political issues, and all the reporters care about is how she looks. Even though this can be frustrating, I do not agree with the fact that women just stop running for political positions because of this. If women truly wanted to be more involved, they would be. As far as voting goes, women that don’t vote should not complain about men being in control. If women don’t participate in something that they are given a guaranteed right for, how do we expect them to go out of their way to be involved? Assertiveness is what women need. Stand up to the men who control your rights and maybe you will see a change in them. I believe it is an overall fear of men that women have because for so long men have looked at women politicians as a joke and criticize them. Women, put your egos aside for a moment and try not to care so much about what men say. They obviously do this because they fear women taking control, which I do not think is such a bad idea.
