The curse of T & A

T & A will bring you no pay. Unless.... you are a prostitute, of course.
It has come to my attention that attractive women with style and curves will never be taken seriously or professionally in politics and the workforce.
Valenti explains in “Full Frontal Feminism” of how former governor of Maryland, William Schafer, was criticizing his then (female) opponent, Janet Owens, of her looks. He poked fun at Owens to the New York Times regarding her hairdo and clothing choice, and described her as being a "prissy little miss."
Is there not a valid argument this man is able come up with? Something pertaining to her political abilities or leadership, perhaps? Anything valid to the position he is fighting for? For god's sake. It makes absolutely no sense to me. This Ad Hominem BS is all too much.
Why do you suppose the public is able to simply brush off the fact a man was attacking a female candidate solely on what she was wearing, rather than forming a valid argument? Do you believe the public would have been just as passive if the tables were turned and Owens had poked fun at Schafer’s clothing?
HELL to the NO, is the answer.
The public would have, more thank likely, called her out for doing this and would have criticized her for making up such a dumb, petty argument.
I don’t know if anyone found this awesome when Valenti spoke of how 2006 Alabama national candidate Loretta Nall was enraged with a local newspaper for running a picture of her cleavage with comments of her breasts, but I certainly did! Nall counters the newspaper with a big eff you by coming up with a catchy slogan stating, “More of these boobs (her) and less of these boobs (politicians).” Um, can you say brilliant? I love when women fight back! 
I couldn’t help but think of Sarah Palin while reading Valenti’s chapter. Poor Sarah. She is a brilliant politician who offeres wonderful ideas, yet, somehow we never focus on her ideas. What we do focus on? Her personal life. What is she wearing? Why is she spending so much money on her clothing for her campaign? All I ever hear about when she pops up in conversation is about how she is a ‘MILF’ or how she says the dumbest things (ie how she stated she could see Alaska from her backyard, or whatever she said that didn’t make any sense). I feel like the media pokes fun at her and calls her out more simply because she is an attractive woman. I know Obama made a statement mentioning all of our, and I quote “FOURTY-NINE” states. Yep, he said 49. Yet, we never hear about his mistakes. Why? Because, he is a handsome, younger politician. Being good-looking works in favor for male politicians, yet can greatly hinder female politicians. This is greatly upsetting.
I wonder what would happen if an extremely brilliant and attractive young woman ran for president, and decided not to wear unflattering manly suits and not skimp out on the makeup. Also, she would have to have long deliciously bouncy hair, rather than a shorter, masculine cut. What would happen? Would America accept this? Or, would this prodigy be a laughing stock and fall victim to the curse of having T & A?
